The primary goal of the proposed study is to examine everyday substance use among emerging adults (ages 18-25)and automatic identification of intervention needs via an ecological momentary assessment protocol, powered by artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) models. The aims are to identify psychological mechanisms and contextual factors that influence substance use, informing the development of ecologically informed interventions and promoting long-term health outcomes.
Phase 1: Understand individual, inter-personal, and contextual factors associated with everyday substance use using Reddit and other social media data.
Phase 2: Test the validity of AI/ML-powered process to collect multimodal data on daily substance use and related psychosocial factors among emerging adults to inform the identification of intervention needs with a large sample of emerging adults.
