Dr. Carey received her Doctorate degree in Public Administration from Capella University, specializing in General Public Administration, and began her role as an IBR Associate Research Scientist in January 2024. Previously, Dr. Carey worked with the Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) TCU Hub as a consultant. She is an internationally-certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional, an internationally-certified Peer Recovery Specialist, and a Texas Recovery Support Peer Specialist. Dr. Carey’s worked for 15 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Rehabilitation Programs Division as the Deputy Director of Substance Use Treatment where she was responsible for overseeing the clinical operations of all substance use programs and services, providing corrective plans for problematic issues in all areas of the Division and treatment programs throughout Texas. Dr. Carey also worked at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department for 5 years where she served as an Institutional Case Manager, Program Administrator of Specialized Treatment Programs, and Director of Security Operations. Her experiences also include several years working with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Dr. Carey also has worked in higher education for over ten years teaching course work in Business and Criminal Justice.
